\nDo you need a permit to carry concealed in Michigan?<\/strong> Yes. But Michigan is a permit-required, “shall-issue” state. Therefore, to carry a concealed pistol you must have a valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL). Carrying a concealed pistol without a CPL, including any pistol inside a vehicle, even in plain sight, is a felony under MCL 750.227, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and\/or a fine up to $2,500. Michigan has not yet adopted permitless (“constitutional”) carry as of 2026.<\/p>\n
