Michigan DUI Defense
Answer: A little bit about me. I come from a family of doctors and so it was sort of predestined that I was going to go into medicine. And when I was an undergraduate, I was pursuing a medical degree, or a pre-med degree, with the intention of going on to medical school. And then my junior year of college, I started to become interested in philosophy and somewhat in politics—not so much running for office, but just in how political systems work. And that sort of lead to my interest in law. So I decided to abandon my dream of becoming a doctor and instead pursue a career in law. Now, I was almost done with my biology degree, so I decided to finish it, and then I went on to law school.
When I was about to finish law school, I was searching for something that I could do that would bring the two disciplines together. And I was originally thinking that I could use the science as well as the law, and I looked into that. I was very interested in taking the Patent Bar. I was also interested in medical malpractice defense, which made sense. I couldn't represent plaintiffs and sue doctors I didn't think because of my family, but I thought I could represent the doctors themselves. And in fact I did that for a year after I finished with law school, and I hated it. Now, when I was in law school I worked for a judge, Judge Kuhn of the Oakland County Circuit Court, and I got to see all of the different types of law that were practiced, at least at the trial court level. And the thing that I was the most interested in and that seemed the most interesting was criminal law.
I didn't realize necessarily that there is some type of —what's the word I'm trying to think of—a compliment of the two, one and the other. But as I started to get into the science of drunk driving, I started to realize that my science background was very valuable, because drunk driving cases, intoxicated driving cases—whether it's alcohol or drugs—involve the metabolism of alcohol and drugs as well as the testing itself, so we have breath and blood testing, all of which involve science. So having the science background really helped me understand how to effectively represent my clients.
