Barone Defense Firm Paralegal to Attend Northwestern Law

The Barone Defense Firm is pleased to announce that Madeline Barone will be attending Northwestern Pritzker School of Law this fall. Madeline is currently a paralegal at the firm.

Northwestern Law School, located in Chicago, Illinois, was founded in 1859. Since that time, Northwestern has continued to develop its standing as an elite law school, consistently being ranked among the nation’s top law schools. For example, Northwestern is a T-14 law school, meaning it is consistently among the top 14 law schools that are ranked in U.S. News & World Report. In fact, the law schools listed in T-14 are the only schools to have ever been in the top 10. Because of their high status, graduates of T-14 law schools are typically employed in the highest levels of government, the most prestigious Big Law firms, or hold C-level positions at Fortune 500 corporations. Madeline intends to pursue Northwestern’s Environmental Law concentration with the goal of future leadership in international environmental law and governmental policy.

Madeline began pursuing a career in environmental law as an undergraduate student. She is a 2019 honors graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.S. in Psychology. She also is well-versed in Mandarin Chinese, with six years of formal Mandarin education. Due to her diverse academic background, Madeline is hoping to combine her knowledge of the environmental and energy sector with her Mandarin language skills to specialize in international environmental law.

Madeline is the founder of the Omicron chapter of Epsilon Eta Environmental Honors Fraternity at the University of Illinois. She was also very involved in environmentalism at the University of Illinois in other capacities, such as directing the on-campus energy saving competition, the Eco-Olympics, and directing the University of Illinois International Freezer Challenge Team to win first place internationally two years in a row. Madeline was also highly involved in Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority at both the University of Illinois and the University of Michigan.

When considering where to pursue her legal education, Madeline knew she wanted to attend a school with an excellent environmental law program. As part of her due diligence, Madeline took note of the fact that Northwestern Law’s environmental law concentration brings Chicago’s environmental, legal, business, and scientific communities together to create a dynamic interdisciplinary approach to learning. The school offers a plethora of introductory and advanced level coursework, including international environmental law, environmental sustainability, energy law and climate change. Students enrolled in Northwestern’s environmental law concentration program can also participate in an Environmental Advocacy Clinic and a variety of externships, including possibly at the Environmental Law and Policy Center, also locate in downtown Chicago.

Madeline decided to attend Northwestern Law because she believed that graduating from such a prestigious law school that is also highly dedicated to their Environmental Law program offered her the best opportunity for her to reach her career goals. Northwestern also offered Madeline a very generous merit scholarship, which made the decision to attend Northwestern law even easier.

Madeline has been a pleasure to have working as a Paralegal at the Barone Defense Firm and we believe that this position has helped prepare her for her ensuring legal education and ultimately her career in law. She is looking forward to moving to Chicago to continue her legal career in August.
